Choice Based Credit System (CBCS)

The University follows the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) as envisaged by the University Grants Commission (UGC). CBCS provides students with academic flexibility through horizontal and vertical mobility and enables them to design their own program of study by selecting courses of their choice.

The CBCS framework facilitates credit transfer across Schools and Faculties, ensuring quality, flexibility, and student success as its core principles.

Legal Status & Recognition

SIKKIM INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY has been established in Sikkim by an Act of the State Legislature under self-finance mode, with the assent of His Excellency the Governor of Sikkim and publication in the Sikkim Gazette.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has accorded the University the status of a State Private University under the provisions of the UGC Act, 1956, and empowered it to award degrees under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956.

The Board of Governors serves as the Governing Body of the University, comprising industrialists, academicians, and representatives of the State Government as per the SIKKIM INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY SIKKIM Act, 2021.
